The Globe Inn

PubRestaurant

Food hygiene rating: 4 out of 5

Once a coaching inn and coopery, this Chagford pub has settled into a role that suits it better: the town's focal point. Family run, at the very heart of the town, with a cosy dining room and a bar filled with interesting locals rather than passing scenery. Guests come back six or seven times over, which tells you more than any write-up can. One regular calls it easily the best place in Chagford, and means it.

The kitchen cooks from scratch and sources locally, and the food punches well above what the modest frontage suggests. A vegan mushroom and spinach pie arrived with genuinely homemade puff pastry and proper thrice cooked chips, plated better than most pub food manages. Rooms upstairs make it a sound base for Dartmoor walks and rides. There are music evenings and a Cinema Club too. Call for the best rates on a room.
