The Chagford Inn

Just off the main square in Chagford, this has been a pub for two hundred years or more, trading as the Bakers Arms and then Buller's Arms before settling on its current name in 2014. Ollie and Jordan have been at the helm since 2020, along with two children and a pair of Labradors. Devon born and bred, Ollie came up through Exeter College and runs the kitchen; Jordan takes the bar and the floor.

The menu shifts with the seasons and with whatever the farmers and growers can supply, so expect meat from local farms, daily deliveries from garden growers and fish landed along the South Coast. It reads as food-led rather than formal, casual dining done properly. There are also two dog friendly guest rooms across the courtyard garden, which makes this a sensible base for a night or two on the moors. Call ahead to book a stay.
