Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

The Bridford Inn is a family-run 17th century free house high in the Teign Valley, inside Dartmoor National Park and only nine miles from Exeter - rural without being hard to reach. Stone walls, beamed ceilings and an inglenook fireplace inside; panoramic views across the surrounding hills from the garden.

The bar keeps Dartmoor Jail Ale alongside three changing guest ales from local and national brewers, and the Cider and Scrumpy Bar is a genuine feature rather than a token pump. The kitchen is known for portions that defeat most people and a Sunday roast worth booking for, and the chips are homemade, double cooked and left in their skins.
