Drink · Widecombe In The Moor

The Old Inn, Widecombe

Pub

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Right in the heart of the village, with Hameldown rising beyond the garden, this is the moorland pub most people picture before they arrive: log fires in winter, tables outside for the rest of the year, and Michael, Shane and the team keeping things relaxed rather than reverent. Dogs are genuinely welcome and there is always a treat behind the bar for them. It is open daily for lunch and dinner.

Food is hearty and fresh, with dietary requirements taken seriously rather than tolerated. The bar runs to hand-picked wines, bubbles, spirits and soft and hot drinks, plus the Badger cask ales brewed by Hall & Woodhouse in Dorset and sold only in their pubs, with the range shifting through the seasons. Booking online is straightforward, but parties of more than ten need to ring ahead.
