Family-run since September 2017, this neighbourhood brasserie in Plymouth has built its reputation on a simple idea: local produce, cooked fresh to order, served properly. The menus change every week, which keeps the kitchen honest and the regulars curious. It is an award winning bistro, but the tone is closer to somewhere you drop into on a Wednesday than somewhere you save for a birthday, even if it handles those too.

Lunch runs Wednesday to Saturday, 12pm to 2.30pm, with dinner from 5.30pm the same days and a Sunday lunch besides. There are daily specials, vegetarian and vegan options, a children's menu on request, and a Trust the Chef option if you would rather hand over the decisions. Twelve seats outside under the fig tree, worth booking. Homemade ice cream, bread and smoked butter are available to take away - call ahead.
