Suphas Street Food Emporium

Five countries' worth of street food sit on one menu here: Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Malaysia, cooked in Plymouth by a genuinely independent kitchen that built the whole thing from scratch. Regulars talk about the view as much as the food, and about travelling an hour each way to eat here, which tells you plenty. The atmosphere is unpretentious rather than styled, and the spices are freshly ground rather than shaken from a jar.

The menu splits into street small and street big, with fish and seafood given its own section and a curry paste line made in house. Vegetarian and vegan choices are extensive, many dishes are naturally gluten free, and there is a kids menu. Portions are generous and prices reasonable by all accounts. Closed Mondays, open from lunchtime through the evening the rest of the week, so it works for a late lunch as well as dinner.
