BakeryPub

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

A 17th century freehouse in the middle of South Petherton, close enough to the A303 to be a genuinely useful stop and far enough into the village to feel like it belongs to the people who live there. CAMRA has named it Pub of the Year, and the Western Gazette voted it their pub of the year in 2013. That is the sort of recognition that tends to follow a place run properly rather than run loudly.

Food comes out of the Old Bakehouse Restaurant, the pub's own kitchen, which has collected Taste of the West awards over the years. The chefs source as locally as they can, with some produce grown in South Petherton itself, and daily specials sit alongside a long menu that accommodates dietary requirements without fuss. There is an extensive takeaway service Tuesday to Saturday. Food runs lunchtimes and evenings, with Saturday opening from 9am for breakfast.
