Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Craft cidermaking on a working farm just outside Langport, with orchards on site and apples picked by hand. It is a straightforward proposition done properly: traditional methods, a few newer techniques where they help, and a range that runs from crisp and refreshing through to bolder, more complex bottles. The farm is the point here, not a backdrop, and the cider tastes like somewhere in particular rather than nowhere at all.

The farm shop is where to start. Sample the cider, the apple juice or the perry before you commit, then browse the rest: cider vinegar, local honey, jams, chutneys and pickles, cheese, free range eggs, seasonal vegetables, logs and traditional cider pottery. It suits a visit with friends or family, and you will almost certainly leave with more than you planned. Worth building a trip around rather than squeezing in.
