Popti is the Cornish word for bakery, which tells you where this one's loyalties lie. Set up in 2015 on a farm just outside Bude, it began with a straightforward gripe: the charcuterie and cheese made on the same farm deserved better than factory crackers turned out by machines. The answer was to bake savoury biscuits by hand, on site, and the bakehouse now sits within the Norton Barton Artisan Food Village alongside other North Cornwall producers.
The range is savoury biscuits and crackers for cheese, plus snacks, made in small batches to the bakery's own recipes with ingredients sourced as locally as they can manage. Being hand prepared, no two look quite alike, which is rather the point. You'll find them in farm shops, delis and restaurants across the UK, and they ship direct from their website. Worth ordering ahead of a cheeseboard rather than settling for supermarket stand-ins.
