Clay Lonie Jr grew up in Montana and Nebraska, where beef jerky was the default snack whether he was roping, riding or doing nothing much at all. Moving to the UK, he couldn't find anything approaching the quality he'd grown up on, so he set about making it himself in Plymouth, using British produce. That American habit crossed with West Country sourcing is the whole idea, and it has held up: three golds and a silver at the 2021 Taste of the West awards.

The range runs beyond the obvious, including The Vegan One, a jerky made with 100% organic tofu, and a Scotch whisky series drawing on the four corners of Scotland: Highland, Speyside, Islay and the Lowlands. New flavours appear periodically, so it pays to check what's current rather than assume. One practical note if you're buying for someone else: the jerky may contain milk, eggs, wheat, soybean, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish, so read the label first.
