A trek to Everest base camp is an unusual place to start a Cornish drinks business, but that is where Seth, an agronomist, and Kiran, a computer scientist, met and first heard sherpas talk up the neon-orange seaberry. Convinced by what they learned, they came home and planted sea buckthorn orchards in Cornwall, with Lostwithiel as the base. The founding conviction is Hippocratic: food as medicine, medicine as food.
The result is VitaminSEA, a canned juice built on their own seaberries and balanced with English apple juice to soften the fruit's natural tartness. Each can carries 76% of your daily vitamin C, with no artificial preservatives, colourings, flavourings or additives. It has picked up a Great Taste Award and a Taste of the West silver. Worth keeping a few cold for the days when you want something sharper and more useful than a soft drink.
