Bearslake Inn

A thatched 13th-century inn on the road between Tavistock and Okehampton, run by Julian Tarrant-Boyce and Lisa Jenkins, who have lived in the National Park for over 13 years and treat the building's history as something they hold in trust. Sourton Tor, Corn Ridge and Great Links Tor are all walkable from the door, and the Granite Way cycle path runs directly behind. Few Dartmoor pubs are this well placed for a day on the moor.

The bar occupies the oldest part of the building, with guest ales changing weekly, West Country gins, local spirits and whiskies, a wine list curated by local merchants and mixers and soft drinks sourced entirely from Devon. Food is pub classics built on local produce, bought direct from farmers, fishermen and growers where possible, with artisan cheeses, ice cream and smoked goods alongside. Six en-suite rooms upstairs, four dog-friendly with easy access to the garden. Walk first, then settle in.
