Food hygiene rating pending

It began with a school holiday job at Easter 1967, when Peter Carthew's mother dragged him in to help. Brian and Lesley Gibson had wanted to open the South West's first Thorntons Toffee Shop in Looe; Thorntons wouldn't come south of Bristol, so Lesley used an old fudge recipe and they made their own in the back room instead. Peter is still making fudge, now with his wife Jeanette, and this is Cornwall's oldest established fudge maker.

Everything is still made and packed by hand, cooked in open copper pans and sliced by hand, with over thirty fudge flavours running from traditional Clotted Cream to Cream Tea. The clotted cream comes from Trewithen Farm Dairy in the Glynn Valley, the chocolate coating is Belgian, and production is entirely palm oil free, using natural coconut oil instead. They supply independent shops across the West Country and beyond, so get in touch about samples or a visit if you are stocking.
