Sheltered by Dartmoor, this small family-run vineyard and winery works with the moor rather than against it: the tors act as a rain belt, cutting the rainfall that reaches the vines. Not growing grapes for white wine frees them up to do things differently, right down to how the vineyard rows are laid out. In the winery the approach is to celebrate the seasons, doing what suits each variety at each vintage.
Tours start among the vines, covering how they have developed since winter pruning and what recent weather has done to them, then finish with around 30ml samples of three wines. It runs roughly 90 minutes at 11am or 2pm, £15 a head, with well behaved children free and dogs welcome on a lead. Allow longer than the 90 minutes for the views. Dates are on the booking calendar, and there is an online shop for the full range.
