The Steamer Coffee House & Kitchen

Dog FriendlyCafe

Food hygiene rating: 2 out of 5

The name comes from a traction engine that overturned at Five Bridges in 1906, which tells you something about the people behind it: a small local team of coffee, food, countryside, heritage and automotive enthusiasts who started sketching the idea out in 2019. It sits between Cullompton and Willand with the green Devon countryside in view, close enough to junction 28 of the M5 to be genuinely useful, far enough out to feel like somewhere.

Coffee and teas are the backbone, served alongside food from Devon growers and makers they have met and talked to directly. Expect hearty paninis, cream teas and billionaire's shortbread, with vegan and gluten-free options handpicked rather than tacked on. There is free parking, EV charging, free WiFi, a quiet zone and kids' play areas, and dogs are welcome. Worth knowing: Friday is the only late night, running to 10pm.
