The Orchard Kitchen

Dean Forge has been forging wood and multi-fuel stoves in Devon since Michael Chew set up in the hamlet of Dean Prior, on the edge of Dartmoor, in 1969. More than fifty years on, the operation includes a showroom near Buckfastleigh, and the Orchard Kitchen sits within it. A cafe attached to a stove manufacturer sounds like an odd pairing until you consider how long people spend choosing a stove.

The rest of the site gives you plenty to look at while you eat: the Dartmoor Eco, Dartmoor Baker Eco, Woodbury Eco and Sherford Eco ranges, plus cookers, fire bowls, benches, log holders, welly boot racks and bespoke ironwork. Installation, chimney sweeping and repairs are handled in house, and there is a trade counter. Worth combining a visit with a proper look round the showroom rather than treating it as a quick stop.
