Julian David started this Buckfastleigh operation in 1975 making cider and apple juice from the best Devon had to offer. His son Gabriel, back from living in Sicily, took it somewhere else entirely: soft drinks with the seriousness of the alcoholic stuff, which he felt nobody was making. They were the first drinks brand in the UK to gain organic accreditation, and everything still happens on site at Lower Dean rather than being farmed out to a contract bottler.

The team hand selects organic English apples, mills its own organic Peruvian ginger and picks its own organic elderflower, working on the principle that how an ingredient is grown decides how it tastes. Over 110 Great Taste Awards and a Royal Warrant from His Majesty The King suggest the approach holds up.
