The Kents

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Sitting at the foot of leafy Wellswood, less than a mile from Torquay's harbourside and closer to Kents Cavern than any other pub, this is a family-friendly local that takes its sourcing seriously. Seasonal vegetables, artisanal cheeses and grass-pastured Westcountry beef come from producers nearby, backed by a stated commitment to local agriculture and sustainable practices. It has also earned a place in the English Riviera Eating Out Guide.

Lunchtime and evening menus run alongside Sunday roasts, quality real ales, wines by the glass, a full range of lagers and a cocktail list covering both classics and house signatures. You can eat in the restaurant, sink into the sofas, or take a table in the spacious beer garden, which catches the sun properly. Worth timing a visit for a warm afternoon in that garden, cocktail in hand. Flag any allergies with your server.
