The Duck at Burtle

Three pubs have stood on this spot out on the Somerset Levels, and the story starts in 1856 with the railway. The Railway Hotel served workers and travellers at Edington Burtle station until the Beeching Axe closed the line in 1966. In 1980 it became The Tom Mogg Inn, named for a local signalman at Edington Junction whose sign showed him in uniform with a brass bell. A refurbishment and a nod to the wetland birdlife gave it its current name.

Family run and a free house, with homemade, locally sourced food and front of house staff who know what they are doing. Food is served every day of the week and the bar opens at noon until late, closing earlier on Sundays. Booking is sensible given how busy the restaurant gets: tables of ten or more need a pre order, parties over eight pay a ten pound per adult deposit, and smaller tables leave card details.
