Thai Balcony has been running above Saw Close since 1990, well before that stretch of Bath became the busy strip it is today. It's a first-floor restaurant with a narrow seated balcony and large windows looking out over Kings Mead Square, sumptuous décor and traditionally dressed staff giving it a distinct, formal-but-relaxed character.
The menu runs to well over a hundred dishes cooked by Thai chefs, from lighter plates through to full banquet spreads - pad thai, massaman curry and Thai green curry among the regulars, alongside a strong seafood selection and fragrant curries built around fresh herbs and spice pastes rather than shortcuts. It suits both a quick pre-theatre dinner, given the Theatre Royal is a few doors down, and a slower night out with a group ordering across the sharing dishes.
