Beckford Canteen

Beckford Canteen occupies a former Georgian greenhouse on Bartlett Street in the middle of Bath, a light, airy room with banquettes, leather-clad chairs and window counters for watching the street go by. It's a spinoff of the nearby Beckford Bottle Shop on Saville Row, opened in 2023, and shares that shop's wine list - an eclectic, well-chosen range rather than a standard restaurant list.

The kitchen works with local ingredients and traditional technique to put out a menu of recognisable modern British dishes done well, rather than chasing novelty. In summer the garden and terrace turn into a proper suntrap, good for a quick bite or an early evening drink as much as a full meal. It's open for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Saturday, plus a Sunday lunch service, and has picked up a Michelin Guide listing since opening.
