Cafe Lucca sits on Bartlett Street in Bath, inside The Loft, a lifestyle store, and it's the work of Bath restaurateur Richard Fenton - a contemporary take on an Italian cafe rather than a straight copy of one. The room feels more considered than a typical coffee stop, styled to match the shop it sits inside, but it still runs like a proper neighbourhood cafe underneath.
The menu takes its cues from the Mediterranean - gourmet paninis, bruschetta, house-made quiche and a fresh salad bar rebuilt daily - alongside serious barista coffee and what's said to be the largest homemade cake display in Bath. It covers breakfast through lunch and into afternoon tea, and has picked up a best cafe/restaurant award in Bath along the way. It's open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm, busy enough with locals and shoppers that arriving early is worth it if a table matters.
