Styles Farmhouse Ice Cream

A wrong milk delivery is an odd thing to build a business on, but that is roughly what happened at Styles Farm, on the edge of Exmoor's heather moorland where the Baker family have farmed for generations. In 1988 David and Sue diversified into luxury ice cream, and when jersey milk turned up by mistake the resulting batch was so much creamier they switched on the spot. Sue perfected the recipes in the farmhouse kitchen.

Everything still starts with whole jersey cow's or sheep's milk and fresh West Country cream, with no artificial colours or ingredients. Alongside the ice creams there are sorbets, spring water and the "Slim Ewe" sheep's milk iced desserts. What began with a single 1930s style trike now runs to ten vans, three parlour units, trailers and trikes, some solar-powered. Look for those along the north coast of West Somerset, or find the tubs in cafes and pubs across the region.
