Sotto Sotto runs Italian food built on simplicity - the finest ingredients shipped in from Italy alongside locally sourced vegetables, seafood and meat, traditional dishes given a contemporary turn rather than reinvented outright. It's picked up Best Italian Restaurant in Bath at the Bath Good Food Awards twice, in 2012 and 2014, plus a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence reserved for the top ten per cent of businesses worldwide. The Times has praised the setting and the food, and the Sun singled out the prawns with Tuscan bean salad, the butternut squash cannelloni and the limoncello profiteroles.

The room is the reason people remember it as much as the food - a vaulted stone cellar under North Parade, candlelit, genuinely small. Booking is strongly recommended. Open Tuesday to Saturday, lunch from noon and dinner from five, closed Sundays, Mondays and over Christmas and the first fortnight of January.
