Roly's Fudge Pantry

Fudge

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

The first fudge pantries opened in Devon in 1987, and the model has barely changed since: each shop independently owned and run by a local family, each making its own fudge on the premises. There are now over 40 across the UK, from the Lake District to York, but the roots are here in Devon and Cornwall. The Exeter pantry keeps to the same principle, with its own character and the making done in full view.

Fudge is made fresh daily in small batches, a process that takes up to two hours per batch and uses real butter, milk and sugar rather than shortcuts. Traditional flavours include Vanilla Clotted Cream, Chocolate and Rum 'n' Raisin, alongside newer ones like Lemon Meringue and the reliably popular Sea Salt. Go in and watch a batch being made if you can time it right. If you can't, online boxes start at £19.50 with UK postage included.
