Rosamondford Farm has been in Slade family hands for more than 80 years, starting with fifty turkeys and now running to a flock of thousands, with the fifth and sixth generations looking after the birds. The thinking hasn't shifted much: slow-maturing bronze hens reared for flavour rather than size, free range on Devon pasture, raised from day-old chicks on wheat and vegetables with no drugs, additives or growth promoters.
Every bird is dry-plucked and hand-finished to avoid bruising or marking, then hung for at least seven days to mature before being boxed individually with its giblets, which make a very good gravy. There are stuffed options too, including a free range bronze breast with cranberry and hazelnut. Delivery is chilled in refrigerated transport, so it arrives ready for the fridge or the freezer. Order well ahead of Christmas.
