Colonna and Small's

Colonna and Small's opened in 2009, founded by Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood - three-time UK Barista Champion and one of the people who helped bring third-wave specialty coffee to Britain in the first place - and built a reputation well beyond Bath for treating coffee as something worth exploring rather than a standard house pour. The cafe was named Best Coffee Shop in Europe in 2016, and the roastery that followed in 2015 gave the team direct control over sourcing and roasting.

The menu changes constantly and is organised by origin and tasting experience rather than drink format, with a freezer menu that extends the life of rare and limited releases most cafes would have moved on from. Baristas talk customers through what's on offer and how it was brewed, alongside pastries, cakes and beans to take home. Open seven days, from 8:30am on weekdays.
