Chez Dominique opened on Argyle Street, just over Pulteney Bridge, in 2016, run by husband-and-wife team Chris Tabbitt and Sarah Olivier, who named the restaurant after their first child, Dominic, rather than either of themselves. Chris trained in classical French and British cooking, including a stint at Bibendum in London's Michelin House, and that grounding shows in a menu built on technique rather than trend.
The smaller of the two dining rooms looks out over Pulteney Weir, giving it one of the better views of any restaurant in central Bath, while the main room keeps a warm, low-lit, classic French bistro feel - cosy rather than formal, with attentive rather than stiff service. The menu runs a la carte alongside a prix-fixe option and regularly changing specials, all built around local and seasonal produce filtered through French and wider European technique. It's a family-run restaurant in the literal sense rather than the marketing sense, and that shows in a menu that changes with genuine seasonal availability rather than sticking to a fixed printed card year-round.
