Breakwater Bistro

Right on Breakwater Beach, at the water's edge with Brixham harbour laid out in front of you, this is about as close to the sea as a dining room gets. Husband-and-wife owners Tom and Lucy Mayers run it with a team who clearly like where they work, and the pitch is simple: honest coastal food, panoramic views, no fuss. There is even a live camera trained on the water, for the swimmers brave enough to go in.

Seafood comes in freshly landed from the boats, alongside locally sourced meats and seasonal produce, with as much as possible made in-house. Devon wines, beers and spirits back it up. It works as a coffee shop, a restaurant, a bar and a takeaway, so a morning flat white and an evening drink watching the sun go down over the water are equally on the cards. Opening times shift with the season, so check their social media before you set off.
