Bayards Cove Inn

Also known as Agincourt House, this Tudor merchants' house was built in the 14th century and named after the battle, making it the second oldest building in Dartmouth. Grade II listed since 1949, it sits a short walk from the cobbled quayside the Mayflower left from in 1620. Charlie and Zuzana Deuchar took it on in 2012 and have kept improving it since. Children and dogs are genuinely welcome, which is rarer in a building this old than you'd think.

The licensed cafe, bar and restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas and supper, with head chef Danny working a seasonal menu that runs from rustic Devon classics and nostalgic British favourites to more modern plates. Locally landed fish and Dartmouth crab feature, and plant-based eaters are properly catered for. Seven ensuite bedrooms sit above, some with cove and river views, two of them family suites. Worth booking a room if you want the river view rather than just the lunch.
