Barbers Bean to Bar

Chocolate

Food hygiene rating pending

Light roasting is the whole argument here. At Kingsteignton, this award-winning maker treats the cocoa bean as the thing worth listening to, roasting gently to keep its natural character intact rather than cooking it into submission. The result is a fruitiness you rarely find in a supermarket bar. Beans come from organic, fairtrade farms, and the environmental thinking runs right through the operation rather than sitting on the label as an afterthought.

Bars include Ugandan Crispy Mint 70%, Tanzanian Dark 75% and a vegan Nutty Coconut and Spicy Ginger 55%, with whole milk powder and golden cane sugar behind the creamier ones. Nothing is wasted: cocoa husks are blended with whole beans, black tea and herbs into a brewed tea, bagged in biodegradable wood tree sap. Packaging is fully recyclable and biodegradable throughout. Chocolate workshops run through the year, so check dates and book ahead.
