Right next to Newton Abbot station, The Railway Brewhouse leans hard into its railway theme, packed with memorabilia from the age of steam - paintings, photographs, models, books and old gas lights converted to run on electricity. It's a single-bar pub with a covered pavement seating area at the front, four tables where passengers and locals alike can watch the world go by before a train.
Platform 5 brewery started out here, brewing its ales right underneath the bar before it outgrew the space and moved to Torquay, and the pub still trades on that beer-first reputation with a solid range of ales and wines alongside pasties for something to eat. Fridays bring live music and karaoke, and it's the kind of no-nonsense station pub that works equally well for a swift pint before a train or a proper session with friends.
