The George Inn is a 17th-century thatched coaching inn in the village of Chideock, half a mile from the Jurassic Coast and Golden Cap, on what was once the main coaching route between Exeter and London. The building is Grade II listed and has been welcoming travellers since long before the A35 replaced the old road outside its door. It's owned by Palmer's, the Bridport brewery just down the road that claims to be the oldest thatched brewery in the country, so the beer on the bar comes from a few miles away rather than a national supplier.
Inside there are two bars with log fires for the colder months, and outside a terrace with a wood-fired pizza oven that runs through summer. The pub won Gold at the Taste of the West awards in 2020 and 2021, and was voted Travellers' Choice by Tripadvisor in 2022 - recognition that lines up with its reputation locally as one of the better food pubs on this stretch of coast. Dogs are welcome throughout, and the location makes it a natural stop for anyone walking the coast path between Charmouth and Seatown.
