Sunday RoastDog FriendlyPub

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Chideock sits between Bridport and the sea, and this freehouse has the feel of a village pub that still works as one. Twenty minutes on foot from the beach, steps from the bus stop, with its own car park, so the logistics rarely get in the way. Dogs are welcome throughout. There is a skittles alley, a pool table area and a darts room, which tells you plenty about the intended crowd.

Food is home-cooked and unfussy, built on local and seasonal produce and quality cuts, with pub classics doing the heavy lifting. Real ales sit alongside premium beers and a decent wine list. The Sunday roast has its regulars, and Friday brings a fish and chip takeaway if you would rather eat at home. Sky Sports and TNT Sports are on if there is something worth watching. Come Friday for the chips, Sunday for the roast.
