The Anchor Inn

SeafoodPub

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Seatown is barely a settlement - a lane, a shingle beach, the great bulk of the Jurassic Coast either side - and the Anchor sits at the end of it, seconds from the water. Outside terraces and cliff seating take full advantage, which is the whole point of the place. Three sea-inspired bedrooms upstairs, each with a king-size bed and a spacious en suite, make the case for staying rather than just passing through.

The kitchen works to seasonal menus built on local producers: fresh seafood, hearty roasts through the colder months, classic pub cooking given a modern turn. Real ales come from Palmer's in nearby Bridport, the cellar holds Cask Marque approval, and the cocktail list is updated seasonally around local ingredients, with local spirits alongside. There is a hand-picked wine list too. Book a room if you want the beach to yourself at dawn.
