The Cherry Tree

Afternoon Tea

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Family run and working out of Martock, this is a Somerset maker that has been filling jars in small batches since 1997. Chutneys, jams, marmalades, curds and condiments, plus cheeses and hampers, all made in British kitchens rather than bought in and relabelled. The awards are real, but the more telling detail is the volume of customer reviews attached to individual jars - hundreds of people going back for the same thing.

The Hot Garlic Pickle is the runaway favourite with over 300 reviews behind it, followed by Passion Fruit Curd and the Spicy Tomato and Caramelised Onion Chutney. Seville Orange Breakfast Marmalade and Piccalilli hold their own too, with most jars at £6.95. If you are buying for someone else, the Luxury Afternoon Tea Gift Box for Two at £42.50 does the work for you. Start with the garlic pickle and see what happens.
