South Devon Chilli Farm

Just outside Loddiswell, in a valley that looks like it should be growing apples, someone decided to grow chillies instead. The result is a working farm with fields and glasshouses you can walk through, following the plants from seed to harvest and on into the products that come out the other end. It is free to visit, dogs on leads are welcome around the farm though not in the shop, and an hour or two covers it properly.

The range runs wide: chilli chocolate, including a ginger and lime bar and a subscription club for the committed, alongside sauces, pickles and products that have picked up awards. Their recipe writing is worth a look too, from fresh chilli chimichurri to hot honey chicken flatbreads. Opening times shift through the year, so check before you set off, and pack a picnic to eat in the valley while you are there.
