Shimizu Sushi has been serving Well Street, just off Sidwell Street in Exeter, since it opened in May 2018. It's a small, family-owned restaurant rather than a chain outpost, and the menu covers more ground than the name suggests - alongside sushi rolls and sashimi there's shoyu ramen, agedashi tofu, takoyaki, chicken teriyaki and a run of donburi rice bowls, plus bento boxes for anyone who wants a set selection without deciding dish by dish.
The California roll and the classic nigiri plates are reliable starting points, but regulars come back for the ramen and the tempura as much as the raw fish. It does dine-in, takeaway and delivery through Uber Eats and Deliveroo, which keeps it busy with both sit-down diners and the lunch crowd from nearby offices. With 266 Google reviews and a 4.4 rating, it's built a following among Exeter's Japanese food fans as one of the more complete menus in the city, rather than a sushi-only spot.
