Hattiers Rum

DistilleryZero waste

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Founded in 2017 by Philip Everett-Lyons, who returned with his family to the South Hams after a decade in film, television and media publishing, this is a blending house rather than a copy of anyone else's distillery. The pull was a passion for life at sea and the West Country's seafaring legacy, which made rum the obvious choice. The family run H.B. Evelyo Distillery is still in the making, and the sustainability credentials are not decoration: Hattiers is the UK's first B Corp certified rum.

The work is blending. Everett-Lyons sources exceptional rums from distillers around the globe, choosing spirits that fit, lift or complement each other before a new blend is released. Packaging is plastic free, and the business set itself a carbon neutral target for 2025, taking what it calls a quadruple bottom line of people, planet, profit and purpose. Seven years on from launch, it remains a South Devon operation. Start with the story on their site, then buy a bottle and judge the blending yourself.
