Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Exeter's Quayside has no shortage of places to eat, and this one has staked its claim on the modern end of things: small plates built for sharing, seasonal ingredients, local where it counts. It is a straightforward proposition done with care rather than fuss, and the sharing format means you order broadly and change your mind halfway through. The drinks side gets equal attention, which is rarer than it should be.

The menu runs to seasonal small plates designed to be spread across the table, alongside cocktails made properly rather than as an afterthought. Private events are catered for too, so it works as well for a group as for two people making a night of it. Booking a table is the sensible move, particularly if you want the Quayside on a good evening. Go with company and order more plates than feels reasonable.
