Coffee Factory started life as a coffee bar in Axminster, opened by husband-and-wife team Danny and Justine in 2009. When they couldn't find a roaster whose beans matched what they wanted to serve, they began roasting their own, and the business has grown from that single decision into a working roastery with its own cafe, where customers can watch the beans go from raw to cup while they order.
Two vintage Probat roasters do the work: Dorothy, a 1950s 22kg UG model the team calls the original workhorse, and Penny, a 1960 LG12 named after Danny's primary school teacher. The coffee is roasted in small batches and sold as single-origin and signature blends, alongside home-compostable pods and a subscription club for regulars. The cafe side serves coffee and cake, and the coffee itself has picked up Great Taste Awards and a Taste of the West gold along the way.
