The Thimble Inn

BreweryPub

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Thatch, low ceilings and original features set the tone here, in the heart of the Piddle Valley beside the gently flowing River Piddle and just minutes from Dorchester. Crackling fires and cosy corners do the rest. The pub is at the start of a new chapter, but the ambition sounds refreshingly unshowy: genuine hospitality, quality food and a welcome that extends to four legged friends in the bar and gardens.

Cask ales come from Palmers Brewery, kept properly, and there is Fordington Gin among the local spirits, plus a carefully chosen wine list and soft drinks. The kitchen works seasonally with Dorset produce, balancing comforting pub favourites against more contemporary plates. Come for a quiet pint by the fire, a leisurely lunch or an unhurried evening with friends. Best planned as the reward at the end of a country walk, dog in tow.
