The Pig & Whistle

Five minutes by car from Totnes, and ten from Newton Abbot, Torquay and Paignton, this is a traditional Devon pub run by Donna and Philip McCann, with log burners doing the heavy lifting come winter. Food is cooked to order using locally sourced ingredients from land to sea, which has quietly earned the place a reputation locally as somewhere you go to eat rather than simply to drink.

The bar is well stocked and unapologetically regional: real ales from Dartmoor, Salcombe, South Hams and Otter, guest beers from local micro brewers, plus lager, cider and Guinness. Phil's interest in wine shows in a range of old and new world bottles from Regency Wines of Exeter, while Donna's gin and spirit selection leans on local distillers alongside the better known names.
