Bayards Kitchen

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

Bayards Kitchen sits inside the Cider Press Centre at Dartington and is run by Charlie and Zuzana Deuchar, the couple behind the award-winning Bayards Cove Inn in Dartmouth. It's a relaxed, contemporary cafe with a dedicated children's area, built around local produce rather than anything elaborate.

Breakfast is a traditional farmhouse plate, and the rest of the menu runs from homemade cakes and pastries through sandwiches, paninis and pitta breads to more substantial dishes like burgers, ciabattas filled with goats cheese and beetroot, daal, pizzas and soups. Coffee and pastries are a strong point, with mince pies appearing around the festive season. It's open through breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea at the Cider Press Centre, Totnes.
