The New Quay Inn

The New Quay Inn sits right on Teignmouth's back beach, next to the quay it's named after - a granite jetty built in 1821 to load stone brought down from Haytor by tramway and canal onto ships bound for London. The pub itself is older still, dating from the 17th century, when it traded as the Newfoundland Fishery. That harbourside position gives it views straight up the River Teign and across the valley, which is most of the draw on a clear evening.

Cask ale is the mainstay - Dartmoor Brewery's Jail Ale is a regular, with Wadworth 6X turning up often among the guest ales, alongside a proper spread of gins and rums and the usual lagers and ciders. Live music runs most weekends: local bands on Fridays, a full band on Saturdays, and an open mic night on Tuesdays that keeps the place going through the week. It's dog-friendly, family-friendly, has a garden for the summer months, and rooms upstairs if a night by the harbour turns into a stay.
