The Grove

PubSeafront

Food hygiene rating: 5 out of 5

The Grove sits right on the Esplanade where the River Exe meets the sea, with uninterrupted views across the estuary from the terrace and a garden with covered areas for wetter days. Head Chef Paul Mingo builds the menu around British ingredients and fresh seafood from day boats - mussels, Cornish hake and whole Devon plaice show up alongside the traditional pub fare, and Seaside Sundays brings slow-roasted West Country beef with Yorkshire puddings.

Weekend breakfasts start at 10am with full Englishes and avocado toast, and the pub shows Premier League, Champions League and rugby on Premier Sports and TNT Sports. Dogs get treats and blankets given the beach is a short walk away, and summer brings a run of spritz cocktails to the terrace. Open from 11am on weekdays and 10am at weekends, with food served until 8 or 9pm depending on the day and walk-ins accepted alongside table bookings.
