The Bush Inn, Morwenstow

Morwenstow sits at the far north edge of Cornwall, and this free house has been part of it for a very long time - one of the oldest pubs in the county, with hospitality on the site traced back to around 950AD. It is less than a mile from the coast, which makes it an obvious stop for anyone walking the South West Coast Path. Open fire inside for winter, beer garden with sea views and a play area for the rest of the year.

Food runs 12pm to 9pm daily: pub classics, salads, pies and fresh focaccia sandwiches, with Sunday roasts from 12pm to 4pm before the main menu returns in the evening. Eggs, dairy, poultry, beef, pork, lamb and potatoes come from North Cornwall suppliers, some from Morwenstow itself, and they keep their own beef cattle. Breakfast is served Wednesday to Sunday, 8am to 11.30am. Ask about the Cornish gin and Bude rum behind the bar.
