Sir Walter Raleigh

Community ownership changes a pub. It means the thatched building at the historic heart of East Budleigh answers to the village rather than a pub group, and that shows in the fact it exists at all. The Sir Walter Raleigh sits in one of East Devon's prettier villages, a short run inland from Budleigh Salterton, and carries the name of the man baptised in the church up the road.

It works as three things at once: public house, restaurant and Walt's Cafe, with menus and a stated kitchen ethos of its own. There is also a holiday apartment, Raleigh's Rest, if you would rather not drive home. Tables can be booked or by email, and it is worth doing so before you set off, as opening times vary across the pub, restaurant and cafe.
