Shilstone Restaurant & Cafe

Twenty-five years of restoration have turned a Grade II listed Georgian manor near Ivybridge into something genuinely unusual: a 500 acre family-run estate where the house, walls and outbuildings have been virtually rebuilt by local craftsmen. Below the house sit five ancient ponds linked by rills and cascades, with terraced, walled and kitchen gardens, oak lined fields and woodland walks beyond. It is a wedding venue and an archive of rural Devon as well as a place to eat.

Sunday lunch is the fixture, made with locally sourced produce and served in the Great Barn through winter and in the marquee in the 17th century walled garden come summer. The rest of the time there is an outdoor wood-fired kitchen in the Courtyard turning out pizzas, house burgers, local meats and seasonal vegetables from the grill, plus ice cream and the Courtyard Bar, with music some evenings.
