Up at Highlands End Holiday Park in Eype, the view runs out over Bridport and West Bay, and the room behind it is a modern, family-owned bar and restaurant that anyone can walk into. What sets it apart is the fire fighting memorabilia, gathered over 30 years by Martin Cox: a 1936 Leyland fire engine and a 1902 Merryweather horse-drawn steam engine among it. Dogs welcome, soft play for children, big screens showing TNT Sports.
The kitchen leans hard on Dorset suppliers - hand carved ham from Framptons Butchers, sourdough from Bridport Bakery, lamb from Highlands End Farm - with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options throughout. The week has shape to it: curry night Tuesday from 4pm, pizza in takeaway boxes on Wednesday, breakfast Friday to Sunday from 9am. The Roast from the Coast carvery runs Sundays at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm, and that is the one to plan around.
